Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Nursing Grand Rounds “ Trauma Informed Care, 9/29/2021 8:00:00 AM - 9/29/2024 9:00:00 AM, Trauma is a near universal experience of individuals who seek assistance from healthcare professionals. Addressing trauma as part of the healthcare encounter is now the expectation, not the exception. It is equally vital that we understand and build resilience in conjunction with understanding the impact of trauma. The combination of an individual™s experience of trauma and resilience impacts every area of human functioning ” physical, mental, behavioral, social and spiritual. It is now considered best practice that healthcare professionals view the people they serve through a trauma-informed, resilience-oriented lens and to competently intervene in this area. The good news is that trauma is treatable! Organizations are encouraged to become trauma-informed and resilience-oriented in order to best meet the needs of the patient population they serve. This presentation will discuss the impact of trauma on patients and how to engage with patients from a trauma informed perspective. Examples of how this has been integrated in other health care settings will be presented.
