This is a basic introductory course for the student without previous training in music. Students develop an appreciation and enjoyment of music through active listening and guided discussion on related topics including: symphony movements, opera, tone poems, sonata form, and the classical concerto. Style periods are discussed including the Middle Ages, Pre-Baroque (to 1600); Baroque (1600-1750); Classical (1750-1825); Romantic (1825-1900); and Contemporary (1900-present).
