Migrate Windows Server workloads to Azure

Microsoft via Microsoft Learn

Overview

  • Module 1: Minimize the time and resources required to migrate your on-premises environment to Azure. Assess your current systems with Azure Migrate, and migrate them with Azure Migrate and Azure Database Migration Service.

    In this module, you will:

    • Discover how Azure Migrate can assess your existing workloads and plan your migration to Azure.
    • Discover how Azure Migrate and Azure Database Migration Service can migrate your systems to Azure.
  • Module 2: Discover how Azure Migrate helps you realize the benefits of moving your on-premises VMware or Hyper-V server workloads to Azure infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Learn the process for migrating your workload agent-less, all within the hub.

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

    • Explain the migration options for migrating to Azure infrastructure as a service.
    • List the steps of the migration process.
  • Module 3: Learn how to check your prerequisite configurations in Azure and in your VMware vSphere environment and then perform the initial steps in Azure Migrate to choose your assessment and migration tools.

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

    • Set up Azure Migrate prerequisites so that Azure has the right permissions.
    • Select the appropriate Azure Migrate tools for assessment and migration.
  • Module 4: Explore the Azure Migrate tools for discovering and assessing your virtual machine servers. Learn how to install and configure a virtual machine appliance in your virtualization host infrastructure.

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

    • Explain how to prepare for virtual machine discovery.
    • Describe how to build an assessment.
    • Explain how to review your assessment.
  • Module 5: Prepare on-premises workloads for migration to Azure
    • Choose the appropriate migration tool to solve your business problem
    • Prepare Azure for the Azure Migrate deployment
    • Prepare the on-premises environment for agentless server migration
    • Deploy the Azure Migrate appliance to use with the Azure Migrate Server Migration tool
  • Module 6: Migrate on-premises workloads to Azure
    1. Set up the migration target environment
    2. Prepare virtualized on-premises workloads for migration
    3. Monitor and test a failover of workloads for successful migration
    4. Complete the migration
    5. Implement security controls for migrated workloads
  • Module 7: Prepare to migrate VMware resources to Azure by deploying an Azure VMware Solution resource. Then, connect your VMware environment to Azure VMware Solution.

By the end of this module, you'll be able to:

    • Plan a successful Azure VMware Solution deployment.
    • Connect to an on-premises VMware environment.
  • Module 8: Learn how to migrate virtual machines from an on-premises VMware environment to Azure VMware Solution by using VMware HCX.

By the end of this module, you'll be able to:

    • Configure VMware HCX to support on-premises VMware migrations.
    • Migrate VMware resources on-premises to Azure VMware Solution by using VMware HCX.
