This course will provide an overview of the American criminal justice system that will cover the nature and causes of crime, the historical development of criminal law, and the roles of the various subsystems and agencies that operate within the justice system. This course covers the philosophy behind crime control measures, the prosecution of accused persons, incarceration and rehabilitation of convicted offenders. The course will also examine role expectations, ethics, education and training for professionalism within the justice system.
