Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Medicine Grand Rounds - Why We Need Single Payer, 10/23/2020 8:00:00 AM - 10/23/2023 9:00:00 AM, Dr. Rogers discusses three main purposes for healthcare insurance (to protect finances, have access to care, and to protect personal health) and how our current system is failing in these areas. Because of market forces, current coverage options impede access, choice, benefits, quality and cost while a single payer option would address these challenges. A single payer plan addresses these healthcare issues by not responding to profit motivation, prioritizing primary care, supporting a unified EHR and removing access barriers.
