Overview

On this microcredential, you’ll get expert training in everyday Spanish, leaving you confident to travel or work in the Spanish-speaking world with ease.

The course is equivalent to the A1 Basic User, Breakthrough level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, giving you an in-depth introduction to workplace Spanish.

The course includes access to King’s multilingual learning personnel via a weekly 50-minute webinar in small groups, meaning you’ll interact and practise Spanish with your tutor and other participants in the course, as well as receive support and be able to question anything about that week’s content.

Learn Spanish for business

Alongside top language advisors at King’s College London’s Modern Language Centre, you’ll learn the essentials of written and spoken Spanish.

Using a communicative approach you’ll cover the four essentials of language learning: reading, writing, speaking, and listening, leaving you able to handle everyday interactions in Spanish with ease.

Get dedicated support in learning everyday Spanish

The microcredential will be structured around multiple weekly workshops, and a syllabus based on grammatical progression – giving you vital contact time with some of KCL’s finest language academics.

You’ll explore Spanish using videos, articles, and audio material, before engaging in interactive language activities such as quizzes and group discussions.

Earn a certificate in Spanish to share with peers and employers

You’ll come away able to respond to unfamiliar conversations by asking for clarifications and repetition, as well as able to use Spanish to reinforce your knowledge of other disciplines.

Ultimately, you’ll emerge with the linguistic tools to continue a life-long love of Spanish learning, and Hispanic culture in general.

According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), Spanish is the second-most popular language among single honours-degree students and is the most popular language for students taking single modules.

It is also the second-most spoken language in the world among native speakers, being spoken by 572 million people.

Spanish is the official language of 20 countries (including Spain and much of Central and South America) and is a significant minority language in the United States, where it is spoken by around 60 million people.

Being bilingual can improve your career potential. Demand in the US for bilingual workers doubled between 2010 and 2015, and the trend shows no sign of slowing.
