Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Holistic Care Webinar: Essential Oil Therapy for Nursing Practice, 9/24/2021 8:00:00 AM - 9/24/2024 9:00:00 AM, Holistic therapies are increasingly being used to improve symptoms and maintain health and well-being during a hospital stay. Clinical aromatherapy is the controlled and therapeutic use of essential oils in the clinical setting. Recent research indicates that therapeutic-grade essential oils are efficacious at reducing pain, nausea, and anxious feelings in conjunction with standard care.

As healthcare organizations are addressing their pain management policies and processes, including how they relate to non-pharmacologic and non-opioid solutions, essential oil therapy provides an opportunity for a new and evolving evidence-based nursing practice.
