Syllabus
Week 1: The changing world of education
The first module will address the idea of our changing times and our changing educational landscape. Schools are looking for meaningful ways to introduce technology into the classroom. How can we use digital tools to engage our students in authentic learning experiences? You will have the opportunity to watch an interview with Renee Hobbs, a leading authority on digital and media literacy.
Week 2: The critical role of design for technology use
The second module will introduce you to the idea of a design process -- the importance of, the need for, a process to help teachers move from simply covering content to exploring core understandings of a discipline with our students. You will have the opportunity to watch an interview with Jay McTighe, who co-wrote Understanding by Design, a leading design process for educators.
Week 3: Integrating technology for innovating instruction
The third module will address the need to integrate technology into our projects. In well-designed projects, digital tools can be powerful devices for student-centered learning. Project-based learning can support an inclusive environment for learners. Technology can play an important role in supporting an equitable learning experience.
Week 4: Assessing student learning: embracing change and moving forward
The fourth module examines the use of technology tools in formative assessment to better understand the thinking of our students. We will also discuss the need to develop a personal learning network to continue the learning process. You will have the opportunity to watch an interview with Dr. Reshan Richards, the co-creator of Explain Everything, an interactive screencasting mobile application.
