Building on the skills gained in the microcredential, Preparing for Research, this microcredential will expertly guide you through the process of designing a research proposal ready for implementation, for a PhD, Masters, or workplace setting.
Co-created by award-winning researchers at Deakin University and Griffith University, you’ll be introduced to the fundamentals of research design and implementation, equipping you with the knowledge to develop a high-quality research proposal.
Using the critical and evaluative skills gained throughout this microcredential, you’ll have the confidence to assess and justify your own research work, using meaningful data and a well-structured proposal to present to academics, management, or stakeholders.
Evaluate quantitative and qualitative methodologies and theoretical frameworks
Using a variety of different research methods, you’ll learn how to identify the correct approach to address your research need. You’ll examine various theoretical frameworks and be guided through real-world illustrative examples of research methodologies, allowing you to critically assess your research problem, and design an appropriate strategy.
You’ll follow this with learning the importance of data and its impact on finding meaning in your research. With these skills and deep knowledge of research types, you’ll be ready to develop research strategies in a broad range of contexts, both professional and academic.

Will I earn a research credential?
This microcredential is developed to a masters level standard. It equates to half a point of academic credit, equal to half a unit of postgraduate study. If completed alongside Preparing for Research, you’ll receive one full credit at Deakin University.
How will I be assessed?
Towards the end of the microcredential, you’ll be assessed on submission of a video presentation of a research proposal to a chosen audience of either a funding body or a senior management workplace committee. You’ll work towards this throughout the microcredential by keeping a portfolio of potential research topics, approaches, and refined research questions.
