This Linux + course is designed to prepare you to pass the CompTIA Linux+ XK0-05 exam. The course will introduce and explain the concepts and commands required to configure, manage, operate, and troubleshoot a Linux environment by using security best practices, scripting, and automation. You will learn terms, commands, and skills to perform basic configuration and management tasks as part of building and maintaing Linux system. This course reviews the main test objectives for the CompTIA XK0-05 Linux+ exam. This includes a review of the test domains, as well as pertinent examples of usage for commands.

Syllabus

  • Linux+ certification overview
    • In this module, you'll be introduced to the Linux+ XK0-005 certification exam. We will discuss the Linux+ course outline, as well as introduce the test objectives for the XK0-005 exam and a brief discussion of the test, including passing score and question types. The final lesson of this course will introduce some Linux bash shell basics so that you can get started browsing the Linux filesystem.
  • Domain 1: System management
    • Explore the first domain of the test objectives: System Management. This module reviews managing the Linux boot process, choosing a kernel and kernel modules, configuring and troubleshooting network interfaces, working with storage devices and local software compilation.
  • Domain 2: Security
    • In this module, you'll explore the second domain of the test objectives: Security. You will review concepts and commands related to traditional UGO file permissions of rwx, as well as the special permissions like SetUID, SetGID and Sticky Bit. Lessons also cover advanced OS and application security through SELinux and AppArmor, as well as covering concepts like authentication, firewalls and general security best practices.
  • Domain 3: Scripting, containers, and automation
    • Go in-depth with the third domain of the test objectives: Scripting, Containers and Automation. In this module, we will review concepts related to bash variables, creating and executing scripts, working with script arguments and the basics of conditional execution and looping. In additions, lessons will cover copying projects with git, as well as managing version control through the use of git repositories.
  • Domain 4: Troubleshooting & diagnostics
    • In this module, you'll explore the fourth domain of the test objectives: Troubleshooting. This domain covers concepts and commands related to common performance issues with networking, such as dealing with delays, drops and throughput issues. Additionally, lessons include common troubleshooting tools to analyze and solve problems related to process execution and system performance, user access, file and directory access and security configurations.
  • Course summary and next steps
    • This module discusses key test-taking strategies, as well as a set of ideas on how to use the course materials like the outline and acronym list to prepare a study guide. In addition, we'll review some of the key resources that are available for your preparation for the test, as well as recommending some best practices related to preparing a study guide, test prep and test taking.
