Overview

Jenkins is one of the most popular tools used worldwide for continuous integration and continuous delivery. Jenkins is a free and open-source automation server. It enables developers to build, integrate, and test code automatically as soon as it is committed to the source repository. This enables developers to detect errors and bugs at an early stage and deploy more swiftly. It helps in better collaboration between the developers as it takes the latest code and triggers a build as soon as it is added to the shared repository by any developer and notifies if the build was successful or not saving the time and effort by not wasting time looking for bugs. In this course, you will learn with demos at each step for better visualization of the concepts about what CI/CD is, why we should use Jenkins, how to create pipelines, use of different plugins, Jenkins security and much more along with the hands-on practice for these concepts to give you a solid foundation of Jenkins. Some of the concepts covered in this course are listed below: - What is CI/CD - Why Jenkins? - Installing Jenkins - Jenkins CLI - Plugins - Managing users and teams - Managing the system and credentials - Administering Jenkins - Backup Jenkins - Restore Jenkins - Jenkins Pipelines

Syllabus

  • Introduction
    • The "Introduction" module provides participants with an overview of Jenkins and its significance in modern software development processes. Participants learn about the application details and how Jenkins is utilized in automating various aspects of the software development lifecycle. Through hands-on activities, participants get familiar with navigating and working with the Jenkins application, setting the stage for deeper exploration in subsequent modules.
  • Getting Started with Jenkins
    • The "Getting Started with Jenkins" module provides participants with foundational knowledge required for working with Jenkins. Participants learn about the concepts of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and how Jenkins fits into this workflow. They explore the reasons for selecting Jenkins as a CI/CD tool and understand its significance in automating software delivery pipelines. Additionally, participants get hands-on experience by getting started with Jenkins, including installation, configuration, and basic usage, setting the groundwork for further exploration in subsequent modules.
  • Installing Jenkins
    • The "Installing Jenkins" module focuses on equipping participants with the necessary skills to set up Jenkins on various platforms. Participants learn how to install Jenkins on a virtual machine, allowing for a controlled and isolated environment. Through hands-on lab exercises, participants gain practical experience in installing Jenkins on a virtual machine, reinforcing their understanding of the installation process. Additionally, participants learn about the Jenkins Command Line Interface (CLI) and its functionalities, enabling them to perform various administrative tasks efficiently. Hands-on lab exercises provide participants with the opportunity to practice using Jenkins CLI, further enhancing their proficiency.
  • Systems Administration with Jenkins
    • The "Systems Administration with Jenkins" module equips participants with essential skills for effectively administering Jenkins instances. Participants learn about administering Jenkins, including managing configurations and settings. The module also covers backup and restoration procedures for Jenkins instances, emphasizing the importance of maintaining data integrity and continuity. Through hands-on lab exercises, participants gain practical experience in performing backup and restoration tasks for Jenkins, ensuring the reliability and resilience of their Jenkins environments.
  • Jenkins Pipelines
    • The "Jenkins Pipelines" module focuses on introducing participants to Jenkins pipelines as code and guiding them through building various types of pipelines. Participants learn about Jenkinsfile and its significance in defining pipelines declaratively. They gain practical experience in building Jenkinsfiles to define and execute different types of pipelines, including sample pipelines, multistage pipelines, CI pipelines, and CD pipelines. Through hands-on lab exercises, participants reinforce their learning by building a CD pipeline, covering the entire deployment process from testing to production.
