In this course, you will receive an introduction to the development of Indian highways and their classification, covering their classification and the essential elements of highway cross-sections and supporting facilities.   • Overview of Indian Highway System
    • You will learn about the historical evolution and classification principles of Indian highways, emphasizing the importance of well-established networks. Encompasses the skills of distinguishing road types, analyzing road network patterns, and exploring factors influencing classification. Modules focus on highway alignment, cross-sectional elements, road furniture, traffic control devices, and supporting facilities. Additionally, you will gain insights into the Golden Quadrilateral Project and India's longest highways.
  • Geometric Standards of Highway Design
    • In this module, you will acquire knowledge about the geometric design of highways, focusing on ensuring safety, driver comfort, and operational efficiency. Key topics include understanding critical concepts on sight distance for optimal road safety. The module also encompasses horizontal alignment elements such as super elevation and transition curves and providing insight on vertical alignment, includes gradients, and distinctive curve types like summit and valley curves.
  • Pavement Layers and Material
    • In this module, you will learn about the layers of flexible and rigid pavements. Explore soil properties, subgrade considerations, and aggregate classification. Understand binders, bitumen constituents, grading systems, and the evolution of bituminous mixes. Gain insights into Marshall bituminous mix design. Discover the properties of Portland Cement, the purposes of admixtures, and the significance of DLC and PQC mix design in concrete for pavement construction.
  • Design of Flexible Pavements
    • You will gain insights into flexible pavements, their composition, and design principles, including the use of IITPAVE software. The course covers the latest guidelines like IRC: 37 – 2018 and explores the mechanistic-empirical performance design approach and provides a comprehensive understanding of material properties. Additionally, you will learn about long-life flexible pavements, their design philosophy, and advantages over conventional options.
  • Design of Rigid Pavements
    • In this module, learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of rigid pavement, covering its types, advantages, and disadvantages. The course includes design guidelines, material properties for different layers, and factors influencing rigid pavement design, such as traffic and temperature differentials. Participants will explore critical stresses, failure modes, and the use of regression equations for stress calculations. Additionally, the module addresses various types of joints in rigid pavements and provides insights into the required input data, design steps, and essential checks at the end of the pavement design process, concluding with a practical example.
