Syllabus

  • Getting Started & Characterizing Flammability
    • At the end of this module, you will be able to describe conditions that could result in fires and explosions. You will be able to characterize the flammability of gases and liquids and you will be able to estimate flammability parameters for mixtures.
  • Flammability Diagrams
    • At the end of this module, you will be able to construct flammability diagrams and apply flammability diagrams to make predictions about flammable conditions. You will also be able to describe risks associated with sprays, dusts, and mists.
  • Explosions
    • At the end of this module, you will be able to describe the nature of explosions and be able to estimate damage due to explosions. You will also be able to use lessons from past chemical process safety incidents to inform the implementation of safer solutions and work practices.
  • Pressure Relief
    • At the end of this module, you will be able to determine procedures for taking vessels into and out of service using inerting. You will be able to describe static electricity ignition hazards and their controls. You will also be able to propose control measures to prevent fires and explosions.
