How do we make concrete objects, real places, and actual people feel vivid and real in our writing? In this generative one-day workshop, explore the pleasure and power of rendering simple, concrete nouns into poetry. Drawing distinctions between abstract nouns and concrete ones, examining both ancient and contemporary poems, and practicing a series of improv writing techniques, discover how concrete nouns can help us plumb the depths of the unconscious to generate unprecedented language and construct new and vivid worlds in poetry. You will leave the course with a deeper understanding of the most fundamental building blocks of poetry and language itself, and a new sense of the music in all things.
