Power BI Tools: Get and Transform Data (with M Programming)This course is for individuals responsible for taking data and turning it into powerful business intelligence solutions. With Power Query you can transform data (by reducing, adding columns, and combining data sets) so that it is setup for additional analysis. Power Query makes “data munging” and “data wrangling” easy for non-programmers working as data scientists. This course takes an in-depth approach to the Power Query and will provide an introduction to the M language, allowing you to replay a series of transformations. This is helpful when readying data on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis, saving you time on these repetitive tasks. M Code will also allow you to manipulate data using features that are not accessible via keyboard commands.AudienceThis class is for users of either Power BI, Excel Power Tools, or SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). While all three products have a very similar Power Query-related interface, the course will be taught using the Excel 2016 software. Users of Power BI and SQL Server should have no problems with the slight differences between products. This course is aimed at Excel power-users, Power BI BI professionals, and Excel power-users who have a general familiarity with Power Query but need more knowledge and experience to take it to its full potential. Our Essential Report Building Skills Using DAX course is a great complement to this class and is also designed for users of Excel, Power BI or SQL Server. For details on this companion course, go to Essential Report Building Skills Using DAXPrerequisitesWhile attendees do not need extensive prior experience with DAX formulas, it is recommended that they have taken either our "Analyzing Data with Power BI" or "Excel BI Tools" class or have similar experience.Course OutlinePower Query OverviewPower Query and Power BIPower Query and ExcelPower Query ConceptsPower Query WalkthroughData SourcesQuerying Relational DatabasesExtracting Data from FilesUsing Other Data SourcesTransforming Data with Power QueryUnderstanding Query StepsWorking with ColumnsFiltering RowsSorting a TableChanging Values in a TableUnpivoting Columns and RowsTransposing a TableCreating Custom ColumnsIntroducing MWriting M in the Query EditorUnderstanding M Language ConceptsCreating Relationships between Tables in the ModelLists Records and TablesFunctionsWorking with Multiple QueriesUsing One Query as a Source for AnotherWorking with Data from Different External data SourcesAppending Data from One Query to AnotherMerging Two QueriesExplicit Calculated FieldAppendix: Power Query RecipesCalculationsTable TransformationsWorking with Data from the Web
