Prerequisite: CHEM-76A. This course is a continuation of CHEM-76A expanding the study of organic chemistry to include aromatic compounds, introduction to organometallic compounds, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, enolates, amines, and introduction to biochemistry. Topics include nomenclature, structure and stereochemistry, properties, reactions, and mechanisms. Laboratory work emphasizes the techniques of organic synthesis, purification, qualitative analysis, and analysis by using various spectroscopic methods.
