Prerequisite: CIS-50 or CISCO-1. This course introduces functions and features of the UNIX/Linux operating system, including origin and evolution, hardware and software, both command-line and graphical user interface, files and file system structure, system services, processes, background processing, scheduling, file security, the vi editor, file sharing, and redirection and piping. Students are also introduced to shell programming and a variety of UNIX/Linux command-line and graphical tools.
