Application of major sociological theories and concepts to the examination of ethnic and race relations in the United States and the world, with detailed focus on the four major U.S. ethnic groups: African-American, Latino-American, Asian-American, and Native American. Scrutiny of historical, socioeconomic, and gender influence on inter-group relations. Examination of the cultural, political, and economic practices and institutions that support or challenge racism, racial and ethnic inequalities, as well as patterns of interaction between various racial and ethnic groups.
