This is an introductory course to the sociological analysis of the family. Sociological theory will be used to analyze the family as an institution with emphasis on its historical and contemporary changes as well as the economic and socio-cultural forces that have contributed to such change. Family patterns across different social classes, racial and ethnic groups, and cultures will be considered as well. Topics include gender roles, socialization, work, aging, childrearing, dating, family violence, social inequality, and social change. C-ID: Sociology (C-ID SOCI 130)
