Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) helps students make positive connections in the learning process and develop a range of skills they need for school and life. SEL skills include the ability to set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and understand and manage emotions. All of these skills are necessary—for parents, educators, paraeducators, and students—to function well in the classroom, in the community, and in college and careers. A growing body of research is proving that SEL is fundamental to academic success and must be woven into the work of every classroom and in after school and summer learning programs to prepare all students for college and careers. This course is intended for students who want to enhance their own Social-Emotional Learning skills and/or help others practice these skills.
