This course examines historic and current theoretical perspectives on literacy development, such as Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development, Maturation Theory, Family Literacy Theory, and Emergent Literacy Theory. Topics include decoding and reading comprehension techniques, schema building and activation, addressing the needs of diverse learners, literacy development across the lifespan, and reading and writing pedagogies across the curriculum.
