We live in a world of numbers. You see them every day: on clocks, in the stock market, in sports, and all over the news. Algebra is all about figuring out the numbers you don't see. You might know how fast you can throw a ball, but can you use this number to determine how far you can throw it? You might keep track of stock prices, but how can you figure out how much money you've made (or lost) in the market? And you may already know how to tell time, but can you calculate at what times a clock's hour and minute hands are exactly aligned? With algebra, you can answer all of these questions, using the numbers you already know to solve for the unknown. Algebra is an essential tool for all of high school and college-level math, science, and engineering. So if you're starting out in one of these fields and you haven't yet mastered algebra, then this is the course for you!

In this course, you'll be able to choose your own path within each lesson, and you can jump between lessons to quickly review earlier material. AlgebraX covers a standard curriculum in high school Algebra I, and CCSS (common core) alignment is indicated where applicable.

  • Great bridging course from basic maths to algebra:) I liked the videos and loved that you could interact and answer questions within it - the quizzes were designed to ensure you had a proper grasp of the subject matter, one wrong answer and the platform circulates you back around (sometimes a bit like Groundhog Day but at least you are gaining a thorough knowledge of the concept!).
  • I had to take this course to help myself remember some things for Algebra. Through the course, I was able to help my son with Common Core math, which, frankly, boggles my mind. Very well done, and being able to pace yourself really helps!

This course from SchoolYourself takes a very different approach to teaching math. Concepts ate built up very well, so you always understand why something is the way it is, rather than memorizing rules. Lots of questions to check your understanding of every small step, and help that is customized to what you find difficult makes it feel like you have your own personal teacher.

Wish they would continue their exploration of Algebra with a follow-up course.

Well organized and very clear course. With abundance of exercises and explanations. Starts from the basic (addition, substraction) and ends in the midlevel (quadratic equations. I am very familiared with the material and still i learned somthing.

One of the best MOOC classes I have taken. The interactive lessons are a very good. I hope other MOOC creators will draw inspiration from this great course.

This course is a great approach to teaching the beginning and middle parts of algebra. My only complaints is the randomization of the reviews, sometimes they give you really easy problems, but other times they give you harder ones back to back that you have to get correct and you have to watch for any little mistakes you may make. But hey, I guess that's part of the game when you're trying to learn Math.
  • Excellent course on learning Algebra from beginning. I learnt so much and really enjoyed it although it was difficult. Would definitely recommend!
