Y Combinator (YC), the leading startup incubator/accelerator has announced its second edition of Startup School MOOC.  The MOOC is YC’s attempt to scale their investment + mentorship program, which is usually limited to a couple of hundred companies a year. So far YC has invested in over 1,900 companies which have a combined valuation of $100B+.

Last year, over 13,000 companies applied to participate in Startup School and, 95 YC alumni volunteered their time to advise over 2,800 of those companies participating across 141 countries. 1,587 (56%) of the companies completed the course, and, since then, 38 of them have been accepted to the core Y Combinator program and received YC funding.

This time around 100 of the most promising companies that complete the course will receive $10,000 in equity-free funding. Those companies will also receive a video interview with a YC partner later in the year for advice or aid in applying to a future YC batch.

During this 10 week program, there will be around two hours of weekly videos which will consist of guest lectures from entrepreneurs from some of the most successful startups. Last years speakers included the founders of WhatsApp, Reddit, Stripe, and Quora. Videos from last year can be found here.

Another aspect of the MOOC will be the mentorship that will be provided by YC alums. Each company will be assigned to a group and they will have a weekly call with their mentor (along with the rest of the group) where they get advice on some of the most pressing challenges the company is facing.
