Open edX Conference 2022: Speakers & Program
The conference focuses on the novel uses of open source technology in higher education and beyond.
In 2022, the Open edX Conference returns to an on-premise modality: it will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on April 26–29.
Originally planned for Spring 2020, the event had to be postponed due to the pandemic. It will be hosted by the Nova School of Business and Economics and Portugal’s Foundation for Science and Technology.
The conference is dedicated to Open edX, the open-source platform that underpins edX, and its novel uses in higher education and beyond. It welcomes proposals on topics from instructional design to course delivery, and how Open edX can be leveraged to tackle the ingrained and nascent challenges of global education.
Program
The conference will span four days and include sessions ranging from lightning talks to long-form workshops and keynotes.
Three keynote speakers have been announced. Anant Agarwal, MIT professor, edX founder, and as of last year Chief Open Education Officer at 2U, will give the conference’s opening address. The two other keynotes will be given by Executive Director at Nova Paula Marques and open source expert Tobie Langel.
You can find more information about the conference speakers here.
Tracks
The conference program will be structured around three tracks, featuring sessions on a wide variety of topics related to the creation and delivery of open-source-supported education:
- Pedagogy & Instructional Design: Creating online education.
- Platform & Product: Evolving the underlying platform and experience.
- Integration & Extension: Analyzing the data, exploring the technology.
A number of session speakers have also been announced:
- Mary Ellen Wiltrout (MIT), whom I had to pleasure to listen to at Learning with MOOCs in Madrid, will discuss how well-thought-out assessments can preclude the need for online proctoring.
- Miguel Amigot, our friend from IBL, will discuss how AI can be leveraged to connect learners, courses, and skills.
- Diego Millan (eduNext) and Scott Dunn (Pearson), will discuss business-to-institution course licensing on the Open edX platform.
