Overview

Various Schools of TCM is an advanced clinical theory course in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The teaching objectives and tasks of this course are to accurately and profoundly introduce the main academic achievements and academic experiences of famous physicians from various schools to students. For teachers, this is achieved through the lectures on the innovative academic achievements and unique diagnostic and therapeutic experiences of representative physicians from various schools. For students, the main objectives are to grasp the academic characteristics and achievements of each school and the academic contributions and unique clinical diagnostic and therapeutic experiences of representative physicians. The combination of teaching and learning aims to cultivate traditional Chinese medicine thinking, comprehensively and systematically inherit the academic theories, academic thoughts, and clinical diagnostic and therapeutic experiences of famous physicians of all ages, and lay a solid foundation for innovation in scientific research and clinical work in the future. Various Schools of TCM is like a course where we cultivate disciples of ancient physicians and assist students to follow their paths. This course is one of the 20 core courses recommended by the Teaching Guidance Committee for Traditional Chinese Medicine Specialties of the Ministry of Education, ranking equal to the Four Great Classics. This course selects famous physicians with profound theoretical knowledge, prominent academic views, rich clinical experience, innovative differential diagnosis, and distinctive use of medication. These physicians have created formulas with significant impact and theories closely related to clinical practice. Their works play an important guiding role for modern clinical work and greatly promote the development of TCM. This course will introduce their academic characteristics, theoretical value of their representative theories or insights, as well as their significance in guiding clinical practice.

This course has been offered at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for 30 years, with students ranging from undergraduates, postgraduates to doctoral students. The difficulty and depth of instruction increase accordingly with different grades. It is a required course for a qualified traditional Chinese physician.
