Overview
This course explores the issue of problematic substance use among older people, aiming to increase awareness and understanding of this often overlooked problem. Students will learn about the unique challenges faced by older individuals with substance use issues, as well as strategies for prevention and intervention. The course covers topics such as the impact of substance use on physical and mental health, societal attitudes towards older substance users, and the role of healthcare professionals in addressing this issue. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and group discussions, participants will develop the skills needed to identify, assess, and support older people struggling with substance use.
